A client of complex care specialists the Complete Group and his team of supporters have raised thousands of pounds for charity by scaling Mount Snowdon.
Tim, a keen mountain climber before he was left quadraplegic after breaking his neck in a swimming accident, was joined by 12 friends as they took part in spinal cord injury charity Back Up’s Snowdon Push, which challenged teams to take a wheelchair user to the summit of Snowdon and back.
Complete provided sponsorship support for the team, which included Robert Montgomery, one of its personal assistants, who works with Tim. Complete personal assistants support clients with disabilities, both adults and children, to live independent and fulfilling lives in their own homes.
With members of Tim’s team pulling his wheelchair from the front and pushing from behind, the group reached the summit of Snowdon in three-and-a-half hours and completed the round trip time in six-and-a-half hours. They finished 11th out of 16 teams taking part on 9 July and raised around £4,500, which will help to fund activity courses run by Back Up.
Tim, from Sutton Coldfield, said: “Given our minimal training, fitness levels, stop at the top and leisurely descent we were very satisfied with our achievement. I’ve never been more proud of a group of friends and was touched when told by various members that it was the best and most rewarding thing that they had ever done. We and Back Up are also extremely grateful for the support of the Complete Group.”
Complete managing director Sally Yandle said: “We are delighted that Tim and his friends had such a good day and to have contributed to their impressive fundraising.”
Back Up works with people affected by spinal cord injury, providing services including wheelchair skills training, support in getting back to work or school and activity courses. More information on the charity can be found at www.backuptrust.org.uk.
