Clinical Nurse Specialist

Accountable to: Clinical Nurse Manager - Region

Responsible for: Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager you will work within Completes specialist nursing division ensuring the highest quality of nursing provision is delivered.

Banding: Band 6 in line with Agenda for Change

The Company

Role Summary

To provide expertise as part of the Nursing Team on all clinical nurse issues. Liaising with the Clinical Nurse Manager and the appropriate Operations Manager on all matters impacting upon the business.  To train and develop Personal Assistants working with our client group.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To provide expertise on all clinical issues throughout the region.
  2. To provide a professional service to the company.
  3. To play a role in the continuous development of the ‘Complete’ Group.
  4. To liase with the allocated Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, management team and other key staff in the company.
  5. To promote best practice in relation to clinical supervision and to support innovative solutions across the business.
  6. To promote a professional style that develops and empowers staff, recognising achievements and providing support and assistance.
  7. To represent the ‘Complete Groups’ interests and ensure that the implications of the NMC and the standards set by Care Quality Commission are met.
  8. Maintain an awareness of own professional development

Key Result Areas

Operational Planning:

  1. Implement change and improvement in care as advised in the Care Plan.
  2. Complete and evaluate quality assurance systems.
  3. To conduct PA reviews, participate in the training of PA’s through Induction, and NVQ Assessment.
  4. Attend and participate in team meetings as required.
  5. To undertake client assessments upon request.
  6. Co-ordinate the discharge of client’s from hospital, liasing with the appropriate Operations / ILM, pharmaceutical suppliers, funder, etc.

Operational Delivery:

To provide an effective, responsible Nursing service which includes an on-call responsibility.

  1. To ensure that the Company meets all the requirements of the National Care   Standards in matters relating to the delivery of its service provision.
  2. To ensure promotion of the Company’s operational strategy.
  3. Develop PA’s to enhance performance and improve care provision in the    supervision and training of employees.
  4. To participate in the organisation of workload and allocation to meet the need of the Nurse Team, in the event of sickness / holiday cover, to ensure that   the service is maintained.
  5. To act as a role model of high quality care provision, to coach, guide and   develop staff in delivering a high quality service.
  6. To liaise effectively with service users, PAs and other professionals as        appropriate.
  7. To ensure that the ‘Groups’ policies and procedures are adhered to all times.
  8. Fully and accurately record details specifically in relation to employees, service users and company.

Operational Services:

  1. Support the Clinical Nurse Manager and the Operations Manager for the region.       in the Accreditation process, liaising with the Quality Standards Administrator as required.
  2. Ensure that the rights of the ‘service user’ are upheld and promoted at all times, assuring principles of choice, respect, dignity and privacy.
  3. Strive to ensure client satisfaction.
  4. Undertake management of the on-call service for service users.
  5. Develop, implement and oversee management of Care Plans in line with the client’s assessment needs, prior to commencement of a care package, liaising with the allocated Operations Manager.
  6. Conduct client visits in accordance with Company requirements

Record Keeping:

  1. Maintain record of meeting / visit in a professional manner and in black ink, signing and dating all paperwork.
  2. A record of Emergency Response is to be documented in on-call Log and on the Nurse Evaluation Sheet, in black ink and signed and dated.
  3. Prescription Sheets should be completed clearly and should include drug dose, method, times of administration and cessation time of administering medication, and should be recorded in black ink, signed and dated.         
  4. Complete all nursing documentation as per company protocol.
