One of the proposals of the central Government sponsored
Standards of Care is that all people working in care are adequately trained.
The Complete Group fully supports this recommendation.
We have provided a highly inclusive programme of training for all our
staff and view staff training and development as essential to the continued
development of the organisation. With this in mind, we opened Complete
Training Services. CSCI reported that:
"Risk assessments and staff training are in place as are policies,
procedures and staff training regarding adult protection which ensure
that the health, safety and welfare of service users is promoted and
protected."
Our training commences with a thorough Induction Course adhering to the
Common Induction Standards and ensure that all employees comply with
statutory training requirements. Thereafter, training is ongoing and
organised to suit both the requirements of the Personal Assistants and
Clients. This includes specialised training in:
- Moving and Handling
- High Dependency Care
- First Aid
- Epilepsy
- Acquired Brain Injury
- Child Protection
Complete Training Services provides training and
support for Personal Assistants to pursue National Vocational Qualifications
(NVQ). We have become an authorised NVQ provider and have our
own trainers and assessors increasing the level of support to learners.
Programmes of training are communicated to staff and clients
through newsletters and are also available on the website.
Training courses available include High Dependency,
First Aid and Epilepsy and Moving and Handling.
High Dependency study days are intended to give Personal Assistants
an insight to the care needs of our clients with complex needs so that they
can continue to stay at home. The topics covered are the anatomy and physiology
of normal breathing and how it can be affected by the injuries or illnesses
our clients may have, oxygen saturation, ventilators, humidification, tracheostomy
care and tracheal suction. Topics recently introduced are PEG feeding and the
impact a care team can have on a client on his or her life. The day is intended
to complement the training given by the hospital and the client based nurses
and nurse care managers and to give the Personal Assistants the opportunity
to discuss care issues.
The Basic First Aid Course
is a refresher for anyone who completed a first aid course more than
3 years ago. This covers both practical and theoretical components
and once completed is valid for 3 years.
Epilepsy training is organised through an
external training body and covers all the elements to improve knowledge and
understanding of epilepsy in both adults and children.
A Moving and Handling Update provides a refresher
on mobile/tracking hoist transfers, sling insertion, car transfers, standing
frames (physio guidance only) and slide sheet usage. This ensures safe working
conditions for both the Personal Assistant and Client.
The updates are designed for the package and therefore specific
skills required can be tailored to the Client and Personal Assistant.
Other areas covered on this course include relevant legislation,
correct posture and stable base. Some theory is also undertaken and a booklet
can be retained for future reference.
Our trained instructors Lisa Vose, Debbie Adams and Debbie
Milner offer a very professional and enjoyable approach to the training. This
is reflected with Debbie Milner’s experience as a qualified physiotherapist.
We have recently started training in Adult and Child Abuse Awareness.
This will be conducted by Katie Robinson who many of our staff will know following
her return from maternity leave. The elements of this training include how
common is adult abuse and how to recognise it; what to do if you suspect abuse
and recognising the indicators of child abuse and understanding child protection.
This training will be part of our Induction Course and will also be available
as a day course. Dates will be posted on the website and displayed in the monthly
staff newsletter.

Training Department at Head Office.
