Curriculum Vitae

Employment

I qualified as a teacher in 1976 at Alsager College of Further Education in Cheshire and was employed as a Primary School Teacher in Shropshire from 1977 to 1998.  I achieved Deputy Head Teacher status in 1995.

I joined Complete Personal Assistance (CPA) in 1998 and provided personal care for a tetraplegic client before joining a high dependency team caring for a client with tetraplegia and acquired brain injury.

In 2000 I took a managerial position co-ordinating care provision in a multi-occupancy setting, working closely with Transhouse, a registered charitable organisation which provides transitional housing for people with spinal cord and acquired brain injuries (ABI).

In 2001 I was involved with the Shropshire Enablement Team (SET) in setting up the first CPA independent living scheme for two clients with acquired brain injury who shared a house in Shropshire.

In 2002 I became Independent Living Manager for Shropshire and Wales, eventually heading a team of three managers, overseeing care for approximately thirty clients with profound disabilities requiring, in the main, 24-hour care.

In September 2001 I joined the senior management team as Operations Manager for Wales and the West and began working with the case management team, providing assistance to my clients.

In 2005 I decided to concentrate on support provision for clients with acquired brain injury and was instrumental in setting up care packages for several clients with complex needs and severely challenging behaviour.  This led to my appointment in 2006 as Head of ABI Services with a remit to develop the ABI service provision for our company.

I have worked with both internal and external case managers for the past five years, utilising my teaching skills to provide effective management of care packages and have also delivered the induction/ABI training for our staff.

I have been working as a full time Case Manager for the Complete Group since July 2006.  I currently manage 18 clients throughout the UK with spinal cord injury and acquired brain injury.  I am a member of CMSUK and deliver ABI straining to staff in a number of care agencies who support my clients.
