  • Our Personal Assistants

    Paediatric Care services

    Becky Allison

The Complete Group’s team of personal assistants are central to the success of our person-centred complex health care services.

Our personal assistants are recruited specifically to work with each client. Following initial interview, successful applicants are introduced to our clients and their involvement in selecting personal assistants with whom they are compatible contributes to the development of productive, long-term working relationships.

Prior to starting work, personal assistants undergo a five-day induction programme and receive any additional training specific to their client’s needs.  Training and development, delivered by experienced professionals in the relevant field, is ongoing while our care managers and nurses monitor working practices on a continuing basis.

This approach enables us to provide the highest quality care, while ensuring client safety and promoting their dignity, independence and quality of life. The training and support we give to our personal assistants also contributes to our high levels of staff retention, which promotes the consistency and continuity of care that our clients value.

Personal assistants deliver clients’ day-to-day care packages, under the supervision of experienced nurses, and become highly skilled in ventilator care, which involves respiratory management including tracheostomy change, tracheal suction, ambubagging, chest percussion and administration of oxygen therapy.

Their skills also extend to gastrostomy and naso-gastric feeding, including administration of medication, invasive bowel management and epilepsy management. The specialist skills of our personal assistants allow a number of our clients to enjoy holidays in the UK and abroad and to pursue active social lives.

To support our client-specific personal assistants, we also have on call throughout the country a team of personal assistants to cover shifts in the event of an emergency, for example when a personal assistant falls ill.

All members of this rapid response team are highly skilled and appropriately trained to be able to manage the complex health care needs of our clients. When an out-of-hours emergency occurs, clients and staff can notify us via our in-house emergency line, which can also be used to contact the on call service operated by our care managers and nursing staff.
